For those of you who hadn't heard, Leslee's nephew Jeff Ammon was killed a couple of weeks ago in Afghanistan. Jeff was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy (equivalent of a captain in the Army/Air Force/Marines) who had volunteered to command reconstruction teams in south-eastern Afghanistan, helping build schools, hospitals, etc.
Some of the family knew Jeff and most know Aunt Kathy (Leslee's sister), so I wanted everyone to know.
Dad (Wayne), Leslee, Scott, Alan, Erin, and David all attended his memorial on Wed, June 4th at his naval base near Seattle. It was a touching experience and extremely moving. The submarine he had been posted to, the USS Alabama, returned to port for the memorial and over 1,200 sailors attended the service. Rear Admiral Symonds, commander of the Navy Northwest Region spoke as well as two of his former commanding officers. Jeff leaves behind his wife and two sons.
David (Boss) may have pictures to post in the next couple of days.
